What Now!
What to do when the competition is over
As I write this it is October 31 and 2 weeks after the ANB titles in my newly appointed backyard of the last 5 years, the Gold Coast.
In 2004 I had some definite goals I wanted to accomplish. After coming 2nd last year in the Musclemania Australia, my number one goal was to move up one – take the title – and proceed to the Gold’s Division is 2005. As most of you already know that did not happen, but that’s ok. I definitely improved on my physique from last year, and that’s all that matters.
In 2004 these were my major competition goals:
- Present a new and improved Physique
- Come in larger (5kg was the goal)
- Come in a lot fuller, especially in the upper body
- Hit my ‘peak’ on the day of the competition, not 2 days afterwards
I also wanted to try a few new strategies and also promote my business:
- For Musclemania Australia, DO NOT use dream tan (5 coast contest colour due to show restrictions)
- Try a moderate carb load for Musclemania Australia
- Try a High Carb, High Fat load for ANB 2004. This was to compare the 2 methods and see which works best for me (later did most definitely)
- Also to actively promote myself as the ultimate Fitness Professional and promote my business to the people.
In all honesty, I feel that I accomplished each one of my ‘missions’ and performed with distinction. Now that’s its all over – what now! Where do I direct my focus without the pressure of up coming competitions fueling every work-out.
2006 and counting…
I have decided to take the entire 2005 comp season off for 2 simple reasons:
1 – To grow my Physique
2 – To grow my Business
Physically, I have done very well over the past 4 years. In this time, I have competed 8 times and have placed in 7 of them. The lowest I have ever placed is 5th and that was at my first true national competition against international standard athletes. In this same show I qualified for the Natural Olympia – the only reason not competing is that I KNEW I needed a rest!
At 6’2”, I am tall by bodybuilding standards. In some shows I have given away the illusion of size and thickness to smaller athletes, yet have still done exceptionally well. The reason being is that of my great symmetry and condition that I am able to display at comp time. I have had international judges tell me that if I put on the required mass and combined with the qualities I already posses, that I will be more then capable of winning on ANY stage, regardless of federation (natural and non-natural federations).
This next 18 months minimum is totally devoted to SIZE and size alone. To come near anywhere reaching my athletic potential, I need to weigh in excess of 110kg (242lbs) on stage, and I KNOW this is achievable without sacrificing my ‘natural’ stance. It will take some work, but I am more then willing to step up to the plate and give it my all.
2005 is also the time for taking care of business. I will use this time to build Physique Essentials into my true ambition. All my efforts that I devote to my site is a direct result of the burning passion I have for Natural Bodybuilding. I want the brand ‘Physique Essentials’ known throughout the word as a site of knowledge and respect, and I personally wish to be known as an industry leader. At present, I have more ambition and drive to succeed as a Fitness Professional then I do as an athlete.
2005/2006 is the year for GROWTH, so watch out – its full steam ahead!
