"Big Dreams create Big Results"
When I look back over 2003 I can't believe how fast it went by. Now when I think about it, it's already the 2nd week of February. Is it just me or does life seem to be running at fast forward these days? Now matter how fast it flies by though, I always seem to be able to fill my days with productivity. I feel that this is because I like to dream - to plan my future and the things I wish to accomplish. This gives me a definite plan to follow, or what I like to believe, one up on the competition - myself.
Now who of you reading this have set yourself huge goals for 2004? Maybe it was to lose a couple of kilo's, or even to dominate your class at your next competition. Maybe you are having second thoughts, thinking that your goals are a little too ambitious for you right now. It's already mid February and you are feeling that you have wasted the last 5 1/2 weeks with sub-par performances. If your goal was to compete in the regional bodybuilding shows which are normally run mid year, maybe you are feeling like your already behind time. Well I am here to tell you that negativity has no place in a champion's mindset.
Who of you have had someone say just set small, manageable goals which will always lead to bigger goals, but never set yourself big goals to start with? I'm sorry but I disagree. I believe that if you set big goals, then you are only going to receive big victories. As long as your goals are realistic, then you cannot fail.
It would be ignorant to say that your goal is to win at your next comp. That is totally disrespectful to your fellow competitors. But what you could say is that win, lose or draw, I will be at my best. When it all boils down to it, no matter what sport you compete in, you are only ever competing against yourself. If you were to win your comp because someone better pulled out, would you be content, even if you really didn't deserve to win?
If you set yourself lofty goals at the start of the year, do yourself a favour and don't quit. The bigger the goal, the harder you will push yourself. If your comp had a top prize of $1000, you would train pretty hard - right? Now, if they jacked the prize up to $10,000, I bet you start training harder. You see, you now have a bigger goal to go after.
Now the pessimistic people would say what if you don't reach your goal, won't you be disappointed? Think about this. Would you be further along at the end of the day chasing the bigger goal then if you set yourself only a small, guaranteed victory - I bet you are!
